Southern Staples

This is much overdue, so let’s dive in…
Today I’m going to talk about my 3 favorite types of food in Nashville: Meat-and-Threes, BBQ, and dessert.
1. Meat-and-Threes
So a meat-and-three is just that…you order a meat and three sides. The sides typically include mash potatoes, fried okra, corn, green beans, mac & cheese, etc.
– Loveless Café:
This is my favorite Meat-and-Three is the Loveless Café. Make sure to try the famous biscuits and order some fried chicken. While you’re in that neck of the woods, take a scenic drive down the Natchez Trace.
2. BBQ
Now many states in the South are known for BBQ, but each state is known for a different type of BBQ. Tennessee is most well-known for pulled pork.
– Edley’s Bar-B-Que:
Edley’s Bar-B-Que is some of the best BBQ I’ve tasted in Tennessee…and I’ve eaten a heck of a lot of BBQ. The pulled pork sandwich is amazing, and don’t forget an order of the phenomenal cornbread.
3. Dessert
Ok, now this is a troublesome topic…how can I possibly only recommend one type of dessert for Nashville?? That being said, I’m going to stay true to myself and recommend the best ice cream in Nashville 🙂
– Jenni’s Splendid Ice Cream:
When you walk into Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream shop in East Nashville, you may feel a bit overwhelmed by the huge chalkboard of flavor choices. Need a suggestion? Get 2 scoops of the brambleberry crisp in a waffle cone…it tastes like blackberry cobbler ice cream…yum!
Bon Appétit!
